STRONG GROUP FACES TOUGH TEST AGAINST UNBEATEN BEIRUT CLUB

Game on Tuesday - Al Nasr Club - 1 a.m. (Manila time) - Strong Group vs. Beirut Club

Strong Group got a much-needed break before facing Beirut Club in a battle of two unbeaten teams in Group A of the 34th Dubai International Basketball Championship tonight.

After enjoying a day off on Sunday, Charles Tiu and the Athletics took the opportunity to bond over a hearty dinner at Dubai Mall, boosting team chemistry as they prepare for the tournament’s crucial stretch.

“It was good to finally get a break, rest, and allow the guys time to explore parts of Dubai. It’s the first time for most of them to visit, so it was nice to gather and share a meal together,” said Tiu.

So far, Strong Group has made a strong impression in its redemption campaign. The Athletics kicked off their tournament with a 99-91 win over the UAE National Team before cruising to a 99-87 victory against Al Nasr. The Frank Lao-owned club has seen a variety of heroes step up, with reigning William Jones Cup MVP Chris McCullough leading the charge. Former NBA players Demarcus Cousins and Malachi Richardson have been steady professionals, while local players Jason Brickman, Mikey Williams, Rhenz Abando, and Dave Ildefonso have also had standout performances.

But the real challenge begins now.

On Tuesday at 9 p.m. local time, Strong Group will face off against fellow unbeaten team Beirut Club, a squad led by a familiar face to Gilas fans, Sergio El Darwich. Beirut's lineup also boasts a trio of standout players: Mohamad Ali Haidar, Ricky Ledo, and Tony Farmer.

Tiu knows the challenge ahead and acknowledges Beirut’s dangerous potential.

“Beirut is a very dangerous team, and we need to be on our toes for the full 40 minutes. They’ve got a lot of talent and experience, and we can’t afford to let up at any point in the game,” said Tiu.

Strong Group will wrap up its elimination round campaign against Amman United on Wednesday at 9 p.m. (local time).
